History
Season 5
Esther is first seen having trouble with building security whilst trying to get to her appointment with Louis Litt, where she runs into Harvey - who helps her out after which the two flirt with each other but do not give each other their names. In Louis' office, Esther wants Louis to ask Harvey to help her deal with her divorce, citing that she has heard good things about Harvey. Louis approaches Harvey and asks him to help her despite Harvey still being mad at him for his role in cutting contingent compensation, but Harvey agrees because Louis says it is because Esther is family. When Harvey goes to meet Esther with Rachel, he is pleasantly surprised to see that she was the mystery woman he met in the lobby of the building earlier, and not the abomination he concocted in his head.
Following introductions, Esther explains that she and her husband had agreed he would get 20% of he company in the case of divorce but now wanted 50%. Harvey asks Esther who was leaving and whilst claiming it was mutual at first, Esther tells them she is the one leaving. Harvey then recommends her to stay away from negotiations, as he believes the husband is just trying to maintain a connection, and to give him power of attorney.
During negotiatins with Jeffrey Edelstein, Esther's soon-to-be ex-husband, Jeffrey claims that Esther made a verbal contract that he could have 50% of the her company for him giving up his aspirations to become a doctor and that they were going to depose her. Harvey later presents the offer to Esther and is annoyed that Esther did not tell him about the verbal contract, and Esther angrily reveals that Jeffrey had an affair during their altercation. Harvey then has Rachel find every loophole on verbal contracts and pledges to protect her and ensure that Jeffrey does not get the better of her.
Esther is later present during a meeting with Jeffrey, where Harvey has Esther confirm the verbal contract on the record himself to get it out of the way, before they discuss the circumstances under which Esther made the contract. Jeffrey had claimed that Esther promised him 50% of the company for him to forfeit admission to medical school, but it is revealed that Jeffrey was never accepted in any medical school. As the couple start to get heated Harvey stops the meeting.
Later, Esther meets with Harvey who tells her that Jeffrey now wanted 30% but Harvey managed to talk them down to 25%. Esther asks him why she should take the deal and Harvey explains that even though Jeffrey was wrong to cheat, he believes he gave up everything to support Esther, and that Esther was now the one dragging out the fight. Harvey also reveals he did not want to become a divorce attorney because it involved children and Harvey's parents divorced because of an affair. Esther agrees to the deal and signs off on it, before Harvey and Esther continue their flirting and eventually end up sleeping together.
Season 7
After Louis confronts Sheila over the fact that she didn't want to marry him but wanted to carry on an affair, Louis compared the situation to another when he was in high school in 1986. At that time, Louis was dating Mitzy Goldfarb and Esther tried to tell him that Mitzy was also seeing Drake "The Snake" Johnson behind his back. Esther was unable to convince Louis initially, but he took her advice to attend a party and find out for himself. Esther was also at the party, and tried to dissuade Louis from going through with discovering the truth, but she relented when Louis pressed her and told him Mitzy was upstairs with Drake. He ran into her coming out of one of the upstairs bedrooms and she confirmed that she'd also been with Drake. Esther watched as Louis nearly dumped Mitzy after she admitted that she was only dating Louis because her parents accepted him and disliked Drake, but her plans with Louis were a ruse to get her out of the house and her parents off her back. Louis was ready to walk away from Mitzy but when she showed him interest and affection he caved and confirmed their plans for the following night, even though it was obviously still a ruse for her to be with Drake.
