Harvey: You seen Rocky IV?
Jim: Only about 30 times.
Harvey: Well, Malik's Ivan Drago, and my old mentor is Apollo Creed.
Jim: Let me guess, you're Rocky.
Harvey: I'm Rocky, Clubber Lang, and Apollo all rolled into one, because Malik took a swing at people I care about. He knocked one out.

Major/Highlighted Events

  • Louis Litt officially assumes the position of managing partner while Alex Williams and Samantha Wheeler are promoted to name partner.
  • Harvey Specter decides to exact vengeance on Andrew Malik for having Jessica Pearson disbarred by representing Jim Allen, a boxing promoter who Malik is investigating and charging for rigging a match for financial benefit. Robert Zane joins the case as well, and they discover that Jim is innocent; Ricky Crosby, one of the fighters, intentionally threw the match in order to gain $2,000,000 (by having his friends bet against him winning) since he has brain damage and wishes to provide for his family.
    • Since Jim's license was revoked and he lost revenue as a result of Malik's prosecution, Harvey and Robert sue Malik on Jim's behalf for compensation under the Wrongful Prosecution Act, and force Malik to issue a public apology for wrongfully prosecuting an innocent man, knowing full well issuing such a declaration would prohibit Malik from being promoted to higher office by his superiors.

Goofs/Inconsistencies

  • During the shooting of this episode, only seven movies in the Rocky franchise had been released, hence why this episode was titled "Rocky 8". However, the eighth movie in the Rocky franchise, Creed II, also known as Rocky 8, was released just two months before this episode aired.
  • Robert tells Harvey that he had been managing partner for fifteen years. However, in just the very last episode, it is said to have been twelve years since Robert formed Rand, Kaldor & Zane and became managing partner.
  • Harvey mentions the Eagles-Patriots game (Super Bowl LII) as having taken place "last year". Super Bowl LII took place on February 4, 2018; while this episode was released in 2019, timeline wise in-universe, the show should be taking place in 2017, meaning the game hasn't happened yet.

Quotes

Harvey: You have a guy who says he can, but you should know that just because a guy talks a big game doesn't mean he won't get knocked out in the third round.
Jim: So why should I believe that you can handle this if my guy can't?
Harvey: You seen Rocky IV?
Jim: Only about 30 times.
Harvey: Well, Malik's Ivan Drago, and my old mentor is Apollo Creed.
Jim: Let me guess, you're Rocky.
Harvey: I'm Rocky, Clubber Lang, and Apollo all rolled into one, because Malik took a swing at people I care about. He knocked one out.
Jim: And nobody fights harder than someone looking for payback.
Harvey: And on top of all of that, I'm the best there is on a bad day.
Robert: Well, it's official. I just signed over the management of the firm to Louis this morning.
Harvey: And?
Robert: Well, I gotta say, it's a weight lifted off my shoulders.
Harvey: Doesn't look like a weight off.
Robert: Oh, you seriously gonna say that to me today of all days?
Harvey: Yeah, that's how strong I think our bond is.
Robert: Are you sure? Because I can make fun of your physical appearance too.
Harvey: Really? Huh, what would you say?
Robert: ...Never mind.
Samantha: I think that is something I've waited a long time to see.
Alex: You have no idea. And what with you overcoming the difficulties of being white, you must've thought you'd never make it.
Samantha: And you having to deal with the struggles of being a man.
Alex: It's a triumph of the human spirit.
Harvey: So you don't even want to hear what it is before saying you're good with me taking it?
Louis: No, I don't, because you're good with you taking it.
Harvey: Louis, if this is some kind of Jedi mind trick that Lipschitz taught you–
Louis: I don't even know who Jed Mindtrick is, but what I do know is that I intend to be the world's best delegator, and if I'm gonna do that, there is no way I can try to tame you.
Harvey: Well, in that case–
Louis: And what I definitely can't do is put a saddle on you, much less try to ride you bareback.
Harvey: Ride me what now?
Louis: Bareback. I said ride you bareback.
Harvey: Please don't don't say "bareback" again.
Louis: Why not? Harvey, listen to me. You are a wild stallion, and wild stallions have to run free.
Harvey: Louis, I'm really not comfortable with where this conversation's going.
Louis: No, no. All I'm saying is that you're a magnificent steed that gallops wherever the wind takes him, and I'm not gonna ride you hard until, you know, you're able to start bucking underneath me. Now, you tell me, how is that possibly uncomfortable?
Harvey: ...Nothing, Louis. Nothing is uncomfortable.
Harvey: You dropped your hands against Alonzo, and I know why. You took a dive.
Ricky: Yo, what the fuck you just say to me, man? 'Cause anyone that knows me knows I would never do that.
Robert: [to Andrew Malik] So take your medicine and count yourself lucky that we're willing to horse-trade. Because if we weren't, you'd be fucked right now.
Harvey: You know, I was just thinking. I told Jim that this case was Rocky IV, but it turned out to be Rocky III.
Robert: You mean the one where Apollo and Rocky come together to beat Mr. T?
Harvey: Well, I sure as hell wasn't talking about Rocky V.
Robert: Well, you know what happens at the end of Rocky III.
Harvey: Yeah, Rocky and Apollo go toe-to-toe. Let me guess, you're wondering what would happen if we went toe-to-toe.
Robert: I don't need to wonder. I know what'd happen. I'd win.
Harvey: Whatever gets you through the day.
Robert: We're in here arguing about who's better between you and me. What if Louis turns out better than both of us?
Harvey: Jesus Christ, that'd be the worst Rocky ever.
Robert: No, Rocky V is still the worst Rocky ever.
Harvey: Finally, something we can agree on.
Robert: Truth be told, I never even saw Rocky VI.
Harvey: Neither did anybody else, Robert.
Robert: You know, that new Creed franchise, oh, that's quite a little something.
Harvey: Really?
Robert: Mm-hmm.
Harvey: Maybe I should watch it tonight. Want to come over?
Robert: Do I look like I don't have nothing to do but to come and watch Rocky VII with your lonely ass?
Harvey: But I got popcorn.
Robert: ...I'll call Laura.
