"I guess you aren't big on foreplay."
"Oh, I like foreplay just fine, Alex. But you're right about one thing. You're about to get fucked.
"

Alex Williams and Samantha Wheeler

Samantha Wheeler, J.D. is a corporate attorney and a name partner at Litt Wheeler Williams Bennett. Initially a senior partner at Rand, Kaldor & Zane, she left to follow Robert Zane at Zane Specter Litt. She is known to be extremely ruthless and hardworking, and was Robert's right hand, much like Harvey Specter was to Jessica Pearson.

History

Samantha grew up shuffled through the foster care system, having no idea who her parents were or even what their names were. Growing up, she would constantly get herself in trouble, including an instance where she stole her principal's car from the school parking lot when she was 14. Samantha's foster mother at the time, Judy O'Brien, chose to relinquish custody of her to the state soon after, although Samantha believed that the state had forcibly taken her away. After high school, Samantha enlisted in military service, after which she studied law, choosing to become an attorney.

While working as an associate at Jarvis, Green, Ellis, she was met by an FBI agent who informed her that the firm and its name partners were under investigation for money laundering. She approached Jarvis, who asked her to investigate the matter discreetly. While looking through the files, she came across Robert Zane, a senior partner, who informed her that he too was looking for information as he suspected something was amiss, and suggested that they split the task. However, Samantha chose to look into Robert's task as well, discovering that Robert was seemingly implicated as his records showed payouts being made. Robert notified her that the name partners were indeed guilty of money laundering and that they had put the money in his account to incriminate him, and implored Samantha not to expose the affair, stating that he had a daughter, Rachel. Having never known the feeling of a father wishing to protect his daughter, Samantha agreed to help him, and asked him to choose two fellow attorneys at the firm whom he trusted, adding that he couldn't pick her as she was too young and because it would seem suspicious. As Robert chose Ellen Rand and Eric Kaldor, Samantha orchestrated a takeover from the shadows, allowing Robert to oust Jarvis, Green and Ellis and form Rand, Kaldor & Zane. Samantha then asked Robert to look after her, to which he agreed. Shortly after after, she informed the FBI that she would not become an informant and that the firm they were investigating was no more.[1]

She began to work as Robert's personal associate at the new Rand, Kaldor & Zane. After walking home at night after staying up late at the firm, she was physically assaulted and mugged by an unknown man. As she was on a phone call with Robert at the time, she was able to yell at him to call 911. She was hospitalized soon after, and upon regaining consciousness, wished to exact vengeance on her assailant, vehemently proclaiming that she was not a victim. Robert attempted to have District Attorney Cameron Dennis prosecute the matter, only for Cameron to inform Robert that he could not as the mugger's friend had given him an alibi, placing him somewhere else during the time of the attack. Since Cameron added that he would prosecute if new information came to light, Samantha teamed up with Robert to fabricate evidence, resulting in the mugger being incarcerated.[2] As a result, Samantha began to learn self-defense and became a skilled kick-boxer.

She eventually became a senior partner at Rand, Kaldor & Zane and joined Robert in leaving RKZ and joining the new Zane Specter Litt. While Harvey Specter had been the managing partner at Specter Litt, Robert wished to take over the role at ZSL. Louis Litt informed the pair that they had clients with overlapping divisions, creating a conflict, causing Harvey and Robert to try and get the other's client to drop their division. Samantha, having become Robert's right hand, was appointed to the task, facing off against Alex Williams, whom Harvey had appointed. Samantha ended up losing the case due to Harvey's interference, although he proves to the firm that he is not management material. Nevertheless, Samantha, who had been promised by Robert that she would be the firm's next name partner, wanted Robert to honor his word by the end of the year.[3]

As a result of Mike Ross' resignation, Harvey had taken over all of Mike's clients. One of the clients, Max Loudan, informs Harvey and Robert that his partner and friend, Nick Turner, have started a business venture together but that half of their $100 million investment is missing. Not wanting the firm to lose a client and suspecting Max of embezzlement, Robert assigns Samantha to aid Harvey in solving the matter. Samantha gets into an impasse with Donna, as Donna refuses to honor her original expense account. Alex tries to get in Robert's good graces. Robert informs Alex that the best way to warm up to him would be to land a big client, prompting Alex to seek out Starboard Airlines, a client of Rand Kaldor, and its CEO, Gavin Andrews, who used to be represented by Samantha. However, Samantha warns Alex that given his prior history with Masterson Construction and Reform Corp., he would be wise not to get involved with Gavin.

Meanwhile, Samantha undermines Harvey in order to retain the client, although she has Max resign as a result, infuriating Harvey as he wished to genuinely aid Max in his crisis. Robert berates Samantha for helping him, informing her that he wants her to fix problems for Harvey as much as he does for her. Nonetheless, Robert notifies Harvey that the firm's next name partner will be Samantha, causing friction as Harvey had promised the same to Alex.[4] After discovering that Louis had been mugged, Samantha pays a visit outside Louis' house and begins to teach him self-defense.[5] Samantha also begins to form a friendship with Donna after the pair work together to represent a charity for at-risk girls, discovering that its leader was embezzling and forcing him to resign.[6]

After finding out that Alex and Robert had bonded, Samantha wished to gain extra grace with Robert by poaching a client from Rand Kaldor, specifically from Eric Kaldor. However, Eric had discovered that during her early days at the firm, she had buried evidence on a case and had forced another associate, Betty Palmer, into resignation and relocating to Coral Gables, Florida. Eric brought Betty back to New York as a junior partner in exchange for her information, which he threatened to expose unless Samantha not only dropped her poaching but relinquished her oldest client. With her back against the wall, Samantha agreed, but only if Betty received the client and was promoted to senior partner.[7]

Some time later, Gavin calls Alex after a Vermeer painting one of his planes were carrying was damaged after a hull depressurization, informing Alex that his insurer, Dexhart Insurance, refuses to honor. Samantha, who represents Dexhart, had convinced them to dishonor the claim on the grounds that she believed Gavin had orchestrated the plane's depressurization himself.[8] Additionally, Harvey, Louis and Robert inform Alex and Samantha that the winner of the case would become name partner. Samantha later hacks into a server and found footage where Gavin had spoken to someone else about how the price of his personal Vermeer painting would significantly increase if there was one less Vermeer in the world, which gave a strong implication that he intentionally destroyed the Vermeer he had been transporting for someone else. Despite the fact that the evidence was inadmissible as Samantha obtained it illegally, Samantha assured him that she would not use it in court but would play it for Starboard Airlines' board members, who would then have Gavin fired at the least. Gavin pleaded with Samantha, offering to settle the case by paying for the insured cost of the Vermeer without involving Dexhart and asking for a day to convince the board members to do so. While Samantha initially refused, she gave in once Gavin mentioned that he had kids and that it would affect their lives if he was exposed for his actions and fired.

However, having gained an additional 24 hours before Samantha turned him in, Gavin called Alex and informed him of the incriminating video. As Alex needed to win to become name partner over Samantha, Alex asked Katrina Bennett to impersonate Samantha, walk into Dexhart's offices and gain confidential files. As the information in the files would have legally been in discovery, had Samantha not intentionally refused to acknowledge them and had asked Robert to hide them, Alex used the files to garner a win against Samantha and ensuring victory for Gavin. Despite Alex having won, Samantha tells Robert to promote her anyways like he promised. Robert attempts to do so, but gets into a conflict with Harvey, who wishes to promote Alex. In order to prevent the firm from tearing itself apart, Donna has Louis appointed as the firm's new managing partner, who then proceeds to promote both Alex and Samantha to name partner.[1]

Shortly after the firm was renamed Zane Specter Litt Wheeler Williams, Samantha had lunch with Alex and his wife, Rosalie Williams. Rosalie was representing the students of Logan Tech, a school that had defrauded their students by promising false futures to secure tuition payments, and asked Samantha to join the case as co-counsel so that she could operate out of the firm. They soon received an offer of $15,000 per plaintiff as the school claimed to be on the verge of bankruptcy; while Rosalie believed them and wished to accept their offer, Samantha refused, believing they were lying and demanded $50,000 per plantiff.

Samantha chose to go to Alex, who had a feeling as well as she did that Logan Tech would fabricate their books to make it seem like they were poor, prompting Alex attempted to convince Rosalie of the same. Rosalie was incensed as she believed Alex was undermining her ability to practice law, although Alex convinced her that he respected her but that he believed Logan Tech was lying. Rosalie chose to explain to Alex why she chose to accept the $15,000 settlement, as it guaranteed money for the students and that the difference between 0 and 15,000 was much more significant than between 15,000 and 50,000. Alex agreed with her logic and relayed Rosalie's logic to Samantha, who agreed to support her and accept Logan Tech's offer.[9]

Samantha is soon paid a visit at her apartment by Judy, her old foster mother. One of Judy's foster sons was pulled over driving her vehicle, which contained numerous pills, indicating the intent to sell. Judy explained that her foster son was selling the pills to support the family, and therefore she had confessed that the pills were hers; as a result, she was now being prosecuted. Samantha agrees to represent her, but is shocked to discover that the state hadn't taken her away like she had believed, but that Judy had given her up. Samantha eventually returns to represent her and has the case reduced to a misdemeanor.[10]

Samantha then faces off against Dana Scott in a case involving Samantha's client getting out of a bank contract. However, it is soon revealed that Scottie's client, the bank, created multiple fake credit accounts and that Scottie was helping cover it up. Fearful that she may end up in prison, Scottie asks Donna to convince Harvey Specter to make a deal and settle the case without the bank's criminal actions being made public. Donna agrees to talk to Harvey under the condition that Scottie forever steers clear from the firm, which Scottie construes as Donna telling her to stay away from Harvey forever, although she accepts the deal regardless. Harvey is able to convince Samantha to make a deal, informing her that he would now owe her one, and the case is settled. Grateful, Scottie calls Harvey and Donna, notifying Donna that true to her stipulation, she would stay away from Harvey, although not before adding that she wishes Harvey sees Donna the way everyone else sees them as. With the case settled, Harvey asks Samantha out for drinks, which she accepts.[11]

Louis is asked by the NYPD to testify against Maurice, the mugger who attacked and robbed him. However, Maurice's lawyer has Louis' testimony deemed inadmissible, and Maurice is exonerated with all charges dropped. Samantha informs Louis that she would break the law to have Maurice arrested, as she and Robert did the same thing to her mugger. Robert pleads with Samantha not to repeat the same course of action and to find another way. Samantha and Louis discover that Maurice's girlfriend, the mother of his child, is illegally living in public housing and threaten to have her and the child evicted if he does not confess to his crimes, to which he agrees. Following his arrest, Samantha is berated by Robert, who tells her that there are unintended consequences to her actions; Samantha asks Robert to clarify what he means, although he elects not to.[12]

The firm is eventually sued for breaking attorney-client privilege after Donna, being informed by Harvey that his client Simon Lowe was using fellow firm client Thomas Kessler as a stalking horse, notifies Thomas of this, as Thomas is her lover. This causes Simon to hire Daniel Hardman, who triggers an ethics hearing. However, at the hearing, Robert takes full responsibility for breaking privilege and has license to practice law forfeited and is subsequently disbarred. Samantha tearfully asks Robert why he would take the fall for a crime he had not committed, and Robert reveals to Samantha that her mugger was killed the night he was arrested. As a result, he felt guilty all these years for causing a man's death, informing Samantha that he took the blame as a form of redemption.

Harvey finds himself lonely once again following the conclusion of the hearing although both Robert and Alex reject his offer to hang out as they wish to go home to their wives. As a result, Harvey goes to Samantha's office, deciding to spend time with her. As Samantha divulges how Robert was the person who loved her despite her baggage and flaws and is the person she wishes to share her victories and defeats with, and that it isn't easy to find someone like that in the world, Harvey realizes that Donna is that person for him and excuses himself from her presence.[2]

The next morning, Samantha is in the midst of her morning workout when she receives a call from Katrina regarding the Robert situation, telling her that it's bad and that she needs to come to the firm. At the firm, Samantha waits for Harvey at his office, where she notifies him that three of Robert's clients have put them in review while six of them refuse to take her call, explaining that the only reason clients would leave this fast is if someone else was pushing them to do so. Harvey initially believes that Hardman is behind it until Samantha discloses that the client notices were dated two days ago, prior to Robert's disbarment, and tells Harvey that they need to pay a visit to Eric Kaldor.

Samantha and Harvey head to an ice hockey rink where they witness Eric play. Eric skates over to them, proudly stating that he had notified Robert's clients that he would be stepping down, as he believed Robert would have accepted his original offer of stepping down to defeat Hardman, only to be viewed as Nostradamus in the wake of Robert's disbarment. He attempts to drive a wedge between the pair but fails, and proceeds to offer to stop poaching Robert's clients if Harvey gives him ten of his personal clients, claiming to Samantha that Harvey is the reason Robert got disbarred. As he calls her "sweet pea", she pushes him against the screen, and he states that they should reconsider his offer before informing Samantha that if she touched him again, he would have her disbarred as well.

Harvey and Samantha head to a restaurant where they share drinks and discuss their strategy, with Samantha stating that they should not turn their back on a teammate and go on the offense. Harvey adds that he and Samantha are so alike as what she is telling him is what he used to tell Mike. Samantha reveals that she was hurting the night before and really appreciated Harvey coming to talk to her, but couldn't understand why he suddenly up and left. Since Donna didn't want any one to know yet, Harvey agrees with her belief that he had left because he needed to be alone.

Harvey and Samantha each go to lunch with one of Eric and Ellen's clients, although they both state that keeping Robert's name proves that the firm stands by his actions. Additionally, they stipulate that since Samantha is Robert's protégé, her name would have to be removed and she would have to be let go if they want them to leave Rand Kaldor to be their clients, to which both Harvey and Samantha refuse. As Samantha returns to her office, unable to contact Harvey to ask what happened during his meeting, she encounters Louis, who reminds her that they need to retain Robert's top clients in order to send a message that their firm can still be trusted. Samantha explains that she has been trying hard to do so but that she cannot get in touch with Harvey, wondering if Harvey is taking the matter seriously, only for Louis to reply that Harvey had spent all night with Donna the night Robert was disbarred trying to find a solution. Realizing that Harvey had lied to her and that he had gone to be with Donna, she informs Louis that she perhaps has figured out a way to retain Robert's clients after all. As Harvey returns to his office, he realizes Samantha is waiting there for him. Samantha explains that she wants Harvey to give up his clients to save Robert's, revealing that the night she was hurting after losing Robert because of Harvey's actions, Harvey left to go sleep with the woman whose fault it really was.

Following his run-in with Samantha, Harvey heads to Donna's office, notifying her that Samantha knows about them. While Donna understands where Samantha is coming from, Harvey responds that he cannot accept the things Samantha said to him and that he would have punched her if she wasn't a woman. Donna reminds him that Samantha does not like being treated differently for being a woman, and that since Samantha loves to fight, Harvey should box with her and that way they can get it out of their system. Harvey retorts that he is not hitting a woman, while Donna adds that Samantha has military training and that in a fight, she believes Samantha would win. Harvey begins to leave in bewilderment, although Donna adds that they would both like to fight each other and that for Harvey to refuse getting in the ring with her just because she is a woman would be disrespectful of her.

The next morning, Harvey heads to Samantha's gym and the two begin to punch one another in the ring. Meanwhile, Katrina gets to the firm early in the morning to talk privately with Alex, informing him that since he needs to convince Louis to have Robert's name removed. Alex refuses on the notion that Robert did not actually commit the crime, and Katrina responds that while she is aware of it, Robert told the world that he did. Alex agrees that the firm's reputation is negatively affected every day that Robert's name is kept, and Katrina reminds him that he owes her a favor; Alex then tells her that he would talk to Louis and convince him to remove Robert's name.

In the aftermath of their fight, Harvey and Samantha compliment each other on their fighting. Harvey apologizes for his actions and offers to give up ten of his clients to Eric, although Samantha replies that Robert would not want that and that they should simply fight to keep Robert's clients and accept if they lose some, so long as the firm keeps Robert's name, and Harvey accepts the suggestion. Meanwhile, Alex convinces Louis to vote to remove Robert's name. Since there are only five partners who have voting rights on the matter, they require three votes to change the name of the firm; since both Donna and Samantha would vote no whereas Alex and Louis would now vote yes, Harvey would be the deciding vote. Louis heads to Harvey's office to convince Harvey to vote in his favor, although Harvey replies that he gave his word to Samantha that he would agree to retain Robert's name. Before they can discuss the matter further, Samantha interrupts the meeting and informs the pair that if they remove Robert's name from the firm's name, she would not only leave, but that she would inform the State Bar of the truth. Not wanting to betray his word to Samantha or have Robert's sacrifice be in vain, Harvey heads to Eric's office and hand delivers his ten clients.

Later that night, Donna finds Samantha inside Robert's office and apologizes for his actions, and Samantha assures her that it isn't entirely her fault, disclosing that Robert had taken the blame because he felt guilty for something he had done on Samantha's behalf, and therefore she blames herself for Robert's decision.[13]

The next morning, Samantha is starting her morning workout at the boxing ring, she is approached by Lucas Hodge, a man she served in the military with. Lucas informs her that the firm he is a part of is letting people go after they failed to acquire a Department of Defense contract, adding that he was the only person in his department let go, and that the other guy was the CEO's son-in-law. He had come to see Samantha in order to file a nepotism lawsuit, and she tells him that he can share the details over breakfast. Lucas responds that if she is buying breakfast for him, the amount should be added to his legal bill as he does not want charity, although Samantha responds that taking on his case pro bono is not charity and that she would not take no for an answer.

Returning to the firm, Samantha attends a partners' meeting where she is notified that the New York State Bar Association has appointed Faye Richardson as Special Master, granting her control over their firm. Donna inquires into how long Faye is going to stay, with Louis responding that it would up to the discretion of the New York State Bar Association. Harvey retorts that there is no way he would accept some outside taking control of his firm, while Alex Williams begins to tell Louis that they could have avoided it, only for Samantha to intercede, claiming that Alex was going to say that they could have avoided this predicament had they removed Robert's name.

At that moment, Faye walks in, announcing that she wished to meet them and criticizing the firm's management, such as how the firm had two disbarred managing partners in two years, a junior partner who had gone to prison, and that she believes Harvey was an involved party in Mike Ross' fraud. Faye adds that if they want her gone, they would have to show her that they would stop crossing lines and fly straight, revealing that not only does she have the power to fire them, but that she can approve cases, allocate resources and do anything else she sees fit in her capacity as Special Master. Faye announces that her first order of business would be removing Robert Zane's name from the firm name, causing Samantha to reply that she would find dirt on Faye if Faye attempted to do so. Faye responds that this kind of thinking is the exact reason she had to take over their firm and that Samantha has no say in the matter, causing Samantha to retort that she would be leaving the firm.

Harvey heads to Samantha's office, where Samantha begins to pack her stuff, claiming that the firm isn't for her anymore and that she will not capitulate to Faye's demands. Harvey tells her that they need her, and that whether she likes it or not, the world thinks Robert is guilty, and therefore would think Samantha is guilty if she suddenly quit. He asks her to wait out Faye's tenure as a compromise, adding that the moment she left, they would add Robert's name back. Samantha discloses that she took a case pro bono that morning for a friend that cannot afford their rates, which complicates matters as Faye has control over case approval, although Harvey replies that since Faye's jurisdiction began as of today, as far as he was concerned Samantha met with Lucas and took on the case the night before.

Samantha heads to the office of Tom Daly, Lucas' employer, to discuss the nepotism and wrongful termination lawsuit. However, she is blind-sided when Tom discloses that Lucas was fired not because of the contract, but because he had attacked several employees, had a poor employment record, sometimes missing work without calling in, and that they had to foot medical bills for the employees he injured.

Back at the firm, Louis goes to the IT department to pay Benjamin a visit. He asks Benjamin to develop a program that can analyze the three-thousand page book on the State Bar's by-laws to find a loophole that would allow them to oust Faye; while Benjamin is initially hesitant, Louis convinces him to aid him in defending their home while its under attack. Meanwhile, Samantha returns to pay Lucas a visit, realizing he has PTSD and asking why he hid it. Lucas reveals that he was technically diagnosed during his tour, but begged his medical doctor not to put in his record, hoping that it would get better following his discharge from duty, only for it to get worse.

Samantha returns to the firm, where she notices that Robert's name has been removed from the wall, which now reads "Specter Litt Wheeler Williams". Immediately after, she encounters Faye, who orders her to drop the Lucas case, claiming that as Lucas is her friend, she would cross lines for him, and with the case involving military subpoenas, it would be a red flag. When Samantha refuses, Faye reminds her that she has approval over all new cases, although Samantha lies that she took the case and notified Harvey of it last night, knowing that Harvey would corroborate her story. Unable to make her drop the case, Faye notifies Samantha that she controls firm resources and that she would not allocate any to Samantha for a pro bono case, warning Samantha that she would have to use her own money and that she would drop Lucas herself if Samantha used firm resources, including any associates or her own expense account.

Samantha then heads to Katrina's office to ask Katrina to give her access to her expense account to hire private investigators and expense accounts, although Katrina refuses. Samantha explains that she cannot leave Lucas out to dry, disclosing that while she and Lucas served together, she left and he had stayed for two more tours, developing PTSD while she wears $2000 dresses and negotiates million-dollar deals. Katrina then agrees to help Samantha on two condition, the first being that they follow the law and remain ethical and the second being that they only pick fights with the military that they know they can win.

The next day, Samantha deposes Daly, suspecting Daly of knowing that Lucas had PTSD as he has specifically had the furniture in Lucas' office rearranged so that his back was not against the door. Daly turns off the camera and admits to Samantha that he suspected, but that if he were to confess that on the record, Lucas would not be able to part of the protected class without an official diagnosis of the disorder on his record, which Lucas does not want. As Daly and his attorney leave, they present Samantha with an offer for a sealed settlement of $25,000. A few hours later, Katrina heads to Samantha's office to ask about the deposition, where Samantha explains that she received a $25,000 offer; while Katrina suggests that they could get $50,000, Samantha replies that she wants $500,000 and that she is willing to use blackmail and extortion to help her friend. Realizing that Faye had correctly predicted Samantha crossing lines for a friend, Katrina informs Samantha of this and suggests that what Lucas really needs is professional help.

That night, Samantha invites Lucas to her office, informing him that she could not get his old job back but that he had been given a $25,000 settlement. Lucas is infuriated, as he wanted his old job back, although Samantha tells him that she had created a new corporation called SW Industries. While the company would exist only on paper, publicly Lucas would have a job and would receive $100,000 a year. Lucas does not initially accept the job, refusing the income as he's not actually working for it, but Samantha claims that the contract is null and void if he does not seek professional help. She discloses to him that she was beat as a child and required therapy to better herself, and that he would need it as he was in a war.[14]

The next day, while on the way to his office, Alex is approached by Samantha, and the pair discuss Louis' demotion. Alex tells her that he would not do anything unethical while Faye is around, although Samantha responds that she has grown quite fond of Louis and asks him if he would help her use the law to remove Faye from power; when Alex asks her how she plans to do that, she admits that she does not know yet, but as they were lawyers they should be able to find a way.

In Samantha's office, she and Alex find a by-law that states that a Special Master can be ousted if they cause damage to the firm. Samantha suggests going to Gavin Andrews and have him claim that he is leaving them due to Faye's actions, although Alex protests, stating that if they were do so, they would be damaging the firm themselves, and that such an action would fall under conspiracy and therefore unethical. Samantha then calls Alex a coward, while Alex retorts that he isn't doing so and that Samantha shouldn't either.

Samantha later apologizes to Alex for calling him a coward, confessing that she has been off-kilter since Robert's departure. Alex informs her that whenever he has issues in his work life, he turns to his family life. As Samantha does not have a family, she jokingly asks if Alex is intending to adopt her, although Alex invites her to his house for dinner, stating that Rosalie has been asking about her and that Joy loves her.

Samantha arrives at the Williams' residence for dinner, having a drink with Alex. Rosalie and Joy enter the kitchen, Rosalie bringing Chinese food and explaining that their other daughter, Debbie, would not be in attendance. Rosalie and Alex discover that Alex's car has been damaged, and realize it was Joy's doing. As Joy had elected not to disclose the damage in the hopes that whoever drove it next would assume it was their fault, Alex gives her an ultimatum: pay for the damages or have her driving privileges revoked for a month; while Joy argues with her parents, Samantha finds herself extremely uncomfortable and remains silent.

The next day, Samantha heads to Katrina's office, telling her that the partners at the firm are the closest she has to a family. Katrina asks Samantha for advice on what to do when pressed, adding that someone is blackmailing her, and Samantha replies that if she gives them an inch, they would take a mile. Later, Samantha goes to see Alex in his office, thanking him for dinner, adding that as uncomfortable as the argument with Joy was, it was family and that it inspired her to seek her biological parents.[15]

A week later, Samantha is handling a case for Panasonic when Alex comes to her office and tells her to accept a bad offer presented by Craig Cameron, the attorney on the other side and a former colleague of Alex's. Samantha deduces that Alex wants her to take Craig's offer as Craig has something on him and surprises Alex when she asks if it's about the Masterson corruption and his involvement in it, having been made aware of it due to being Robert Zane's fixer. Samantha mentions that if she took the bad deal, Faye would find it suspicious and look into it and that Alex should simply tell Faye about it. Alex replies that he cannot, as he covered up a crime despite Samantha's rationalization that he was framed, adding that he has two daughters and he does not want them to know that their father did that. Samantha asks what Rosalie thinks, only to realize she does not know; Samantha then tells him to tell Rosalie that night.

The next day, Samantha walks into her office to find Rosalie there waiting for her, wanting to go after Craig for coming after her husband by finding dirt on him, and asks her for her help, which she agrees to do. Shortly after, Alex goes to Samantha's office, aware that Rosalie came to see her as he states he knows his wife and that she would protect her own. Samantha explains that Rosalie wants her to fight dirt on Craig, although Alex, wanting to protect Rosalie, asks Samantha to let him handle it. Harvey then walks in and informs the pair that there are things going on that he is going to notify them of, and that tomorrow morning they would all put a stop to it.

The next morning, Louis, Harvey, Alex and Samantha go to Faye's office to save Donna's vote. They all mention the interpersonal relationships they have, such as Louis naming Donna his child's godmother and Samantha having dinner at Alex's house, although Faye chalks it up to it being friendship and not a relationship and claims there is still a conflict of interest. Louis then reveal that Katrina's code of conduct has a clause that allows the name partners to waive said conflict and that they all have done so. The four also threaten to quit if she does not respect their legal rights to waive conflict, reminding her that she would have to explain to the State Bar why four name partners resigned after she did not let them do something that was their legal right.

At Bratton Gould, Samantha walks into Craig's office and offers a counter-offer, which he refuses. She then presents with a file with unknown information that he reads. After perusing the contents of the file, Samantha tells him that if he reports Alex, Alex would not go to prison, but that if he did that, she would report him for his crimes, which would lead to him being imprisoned. Craig then tries to take Samantha's counter-offer, although she notifies him that the deal is no longer on the table and that she would beat him in court the old-fashioned way.

Samantha then returns to her office to find Rosalie waiting for her to ask why she took care of Craig herself. Samantha responds that after Rosalie accepted her to her home for dinner, she saw what it was to have a family and realized she wanted to protect them. Rosalie praises Samantha, as does Alex, who walks into the office. Alex invites her to their home for family game night, and when Samantha replies that he should do that with his family, Alex states that Samantha is his family.[16]
